Co-chair for Solutions from the Land, A.G. Kawamura, is being honored with the Agriculture Future of America Leader in Agriculture Award during the organization’s award dinner Nov. 3 in Kansas City, Mo.
The award is given to “an individual whose accomplishments, personally and professionally, distinguish him or her as a mentor to young leaders in the agriculture industry,” according to a news release.
From 2003-10, Kawamura served as the secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
He currently is a board member and former chair for Western Growers, the release said, and also serves on The AGree Initiative, the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, a policy arm of the National Academy of Sciences’ Natural Resource Council, Ag Advisory Committee for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, American Farmland Trust and UC Davis Agricultural Sustainability Institue external advisory board.
Kawamura is the founding member of Orange County Produce LLC, where he works currently. Solutions for Urban Agriculture, a nonprofit looking to find solutions to issues such as food security, was founded by Kawamura, the release said.
